SKILLS / BALANCE

Towards a handstand.

Orientation, support strength and balance. Learn the building blocks before the freestanding attempt.

By Patrick

Towards a handstand.

Clear wall · non-slip floor

Your path in three steps

  1. Get comfortable supporting yourself

Start in a comfortable support position and shift your weight between hands and feet with control. Prepare your shoulders and wrists with easy movements.

  2. Use a wall for support

Learn a safe entry and exit in an easier position first. Work with qualified instruction if you feel unsure about going upside down or coming out of the position.

  3. Practise balance in small doses

Once you can enter and exit safely, use the wall for short, controlled balance attempts. Finish the attempt before you lose control.

What to focus on

  • Keep the space around you clear.
  • Learn how to come out of the position first.
  • Long holds are no substitute for control.

A useful next step

A secure support position is a useful first goal. A freestanding handstand is a later step, not a requirement for successful training.
